The Middle-earth of the films may be imagined, but New Zealand's natural world is real, and often even more astonishing. This 10-day journey is designed for families and curious travellers who want to experience New Zealand through wildlife, geology, forests, glaciers, islands, night skies and conservation stories.

Travelling across both the South and North Islands, guests encounter rare birds, marine life, alpine landscapes, glacial lakes, native forests and protected island sanctuaries. The journey combines memorable outdoor experiences with expert interpretation, helping travellers understand not only what they see, but why New Zealand's nature is so unusual.

From albatross in Kaikōura and penguins on Banks Peninsula to glacial lakes beneath Aoraki / Mount Cook, island conservation in Wānaka, canopy forests in Rotorua and native birds on Tiritiri Matangi, this is a rich, hands-on nature journey for guests who want more than scenic sightseeing.

Experience

Arrive in Christchurch and begin with a gentle introduction to Māori culture and local history. Take a waka experience on the Avon River while enjoying Christchurch's English-style city scenery and learning about the cultural meaning of traditional hand-crafted waka.

Travel to Kaikōura for a marine wildlife experience surrounded by mountains and sea. Head out by boat in search of albatross, among the world's largest seabirds, and learn why Kaikōura's nutrient-rich waters attract a remarkable variety of ocean life. The day ends with a local seafood dinner featuring Kaikōura lobster.

Experience

Visit a private estate for a guided honey and beekeeping experience. Travel by ATV through more than 200 hectares of natural surroundings, meet experienced local beekeepers and learn about the world of bees before enjoying a honey-themed picnic with fresh baked goods, seasonal fruit, cheese and estate honey. Later, continue with a coastal nature experience before returning to Christchurch.

Explore Akaroa and travel by 4WD to Pōhatu / Flea Bay and the Pōhatu Marine Reserve, home to one of New Zealand's largest little penguin colonies and an important habitat for the white-flippered penguin. Experience the wilderness around Glenorchy and the Dart River, travelling deep into a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of braided rivers, beech forest, hidden streams and dramatic mountain scenery. Visit a national kiwi hatchery to learn about New Zealand's most iconic bird, its habitat and the conservation work behind kiwi recovery. Continue to the Maungatautari sanctuary, a protected ancient volcanic forest surrounded by pest-proof fencing, where expert guides help guests search for rare species such as tuatara and takahē in a natural setting.

Visit Tiritiri Matangi, one of New Zealand's most treasured open wildlife sanctuaries. Walk through restored native habitat, listen for birdsong and learn how the island has become a powerful example of conservation in action.
